Flexible working 'is perfect for smaller firms'

Smaller firms using sales recruitment should adopt flexible working practices, according to an expert, who said that doing this will help them increase productivity and make their staff happier.

Stephen Alambritis, spokesperson for the Federation of Small Businesses, said that smaller firms should offer staff the chance to choose their own working patterns and have part-time employment.

The small business expert added that at the moment around two-thirds of small firms offer flexible working to all staff, not just restricting it to parents, however he warned that a one-size-fits-all approach might not work for all companies.

"Firms and employees need to be flexible across all parts of the business to ensure that the business runs efficiently. In small firms, part-time work and flexible working is commonsense," he stated.

The Warwick Business School's Blueprint for Success report recently advised that there are six 'ingredients' which will help a small firm succeed, including flexibility, business process efficiency, marketing and human resource planning.
