Mums returning to work 'need to adapt'

Mothers returning to employment, including sales jobs, need to adapt if they are going to thrive in fast-changing workplaces, according to an expert.

Amanda McCulloch, managing director of Aberdeen recruitment firm Thorpe Molloy, told the Press and Journal that as well as their career expertise, women can gain plenty of skills while being at home with children.

"Consider multi-tasking, listening, consideration, patience, prioritising - these skills all enhance how much work actually gets done in a day, but often even the mums themselves undervalue it," she told people looking for sales jobs.

Ms McCulloch added that employers need to look at the skills people have and appreciate that they do not always need full-time hours to do a job well.

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Jobsite said that one of the things preventing people from being successful in the recruitment market is that they are not "selling their skills" enough to employers.
