Volunteering 'has a positive effect on sales recruitment'

Carrying out voluntary work can have many positive psychological benefits for sales recruitment hopefuls, according to an expert.

Mike Locke, director of public affairs at Volunteering England, said new research has suggested that people looking for sales jobs can gain a sense of being valued and having a place in the world, something that they can take into new employment.

It can also help to boost a person's CV by bringing out qualities from time spent volunteering.

"We have seen traffic to the Volunteering England website increase by a third over the past year and Volunteer Centres have noticed a big increase in the number of volunteering enquiries too," he explained.

Dr Eva Mojza and her colleagues at the University of Konstanz, Germany, recently found that the psychological detachment and satisfaction gained from volunteering had a link to better active performance at work the next day, illustrating how helping others can have a positive effect on sales jobs.
