One in ten take on second job to boost income

New research has revealed that one in ten people have taken on a second job in a bid to boost income after the effect the recession had on them last year.

Credit information provider Equifax said that 20 per cent have lost income recently either through cutbacks in overtime, lack of a bonus or a reduction in hours.

This has meant that around ten per cent of people are going through the sales recruitment process in the hope of finding another job which will boost their finances.

Neil Munroe, external affairs director for Equifax, said that whilst these numbers are relatively small, they are based on a survey of financially-active consumers and backs up the fact that the recession has hit the middle classes hard.

"At the start of 2010, nearly a quarter of respondents said they had not had a pay rise so far this year and 64 per cent are either not expecting one or are unsure if they will get a pay increase," he added.

Taking on two jobs might prove a sensible move for mothers who are looking for flexible positions, with the government recently setting up a new strategy aimed at getting more females into skilled, part-time work.
