Sales recruitment agencies 'need to go the extra mile during recession'

Sales recruitment agencies that offer added services are faring better than those that do not during the current economic downturn, according to an expert.

Lisette Howlett, managing director of recruiters HireScore.com, said that many employers were tempted to handle their own recruitment, but this often led to them being inundated with applications.

"So value-added agencies who actually work in partnership and actually work on the candidates fit rather than just the candidates supply, have managed to retain their position and continue to be valued by employers," she added.

Ms Howlett also commented that candidates are more dependent on sales recruitment agencies than before the recession as there are not as many jobs around and they are more desperate to find one quickly.

Research last week by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG showed that for the third month in a row there had been consecutive growth in permanent and temporary placements during October.
