Sales recruitment: Face-time is crucial for successful customer relationships
Managing relationships with customers by meeting face to face is a vital part of forming successful partnerships, according to one expert whose views could interest those applying for sales jobs.
Philip Carlisle, chief executive of the Guild of Travel Management Companies, said taking the time to meet customers in person helps with sales situations and said conference calls should be used for internal communications.
He said: "When you know people well and you are colleagues of those people, it is easier to deal with the routine and it is acceptable to deal with the routine other than face to face."
The chief executive added that video conferencing situations are acceptable but any "critical business" needs face time.
A recent survey from Hilton Hotels revealed that 83 per cent of people feel developing personal relationships is an important element of doing business and is impossible without meetings.
