More background checks are being conducted in sales recruitment

Recruitment practices are tightening across all sectors, including sales recruitment, as more companies carry out checks on prospective candidates, according to one credit company.

Experian revealed the figures which showed that in the first quarter of 2009 there had been a three per cent increase in the number of background checks carried out by recruitment companies compared to the same period last year.

Avis Easteal, general manager at Experian background checking, said: "In times of recession, candidates are more likely to exaggerate their skills and or qualifications on their CV and employers want to be sure of selecting the right candidate."

The manager added that as companies try to save money in other areas they do not want to make a costly recruitment mistake and risk losing more funds by hiring the wrong candidate.

In other sales recruitment news, the online interview skills training service RecruitSure.com recently released a report which showed that inexperienced interviewers are asking questions about a candidate's age, religion or sexuality that could be illegal.
