Recruiters 'missing vital candidate information'

Almost two out of three managers fear they are missing crucial information about candidates during the interview process, it has been revealed.

Research carried out by talent management group Development Dimensions International found 64 per cent of interviewers are missing key points, while 47 admit to making hiring decisions in 30 minutes or less.

Scott Erker, senior vice president at the group, said: "The recession has dropped a deluge of candidates on companies' doors - but that doesn't translate into foolproof hiring.

"The overabundance of available candidates isn't an insurance policy for better hires."

Mr Erker went on to say that between 30 and 40 per cent of interviewers do not know that asking about marital status, religious affiliation, age and family could result in a lawsuit.

Earlier this week, reporter Jorina Fontelera wrote on Thomas Net that a jobseeker's references are likely to determine whether a candidate is offered the position they are aiming for.
