Older people in sales jobs 'bring advantages'

Tesco has revealed a 154 per cent rise in the number of people over the age of 50 working in its stores due to pro-older people policies.

One in five of the supermarket's employees are now over 50 years old, which totals over 54,500 staff members.

According to Linda Avis, personnel manager for the company, it has pro-older people policies which encourage more mature staff and has ditched the compulsory retirement age.

She added more people have moved to the sales jobs later in life, rather than working their way up through the supermarket.

"Many of these new recruits have decided they would like a new challenge and have chosen to follow a new and exciting career path at the age of 50 or over," Ms Avis stated.

She said the stores have reaped the benefits of these workers in sales jobs as turnover is low and they offer loyalty and reliability.

Tesco has recently endorsed a Conservative plan to improve employee's home's energy efficiency, according to Grant Shapps, the shadow housing minister, reports EnergyEffiencyNews.com.
