Sales recruitment training 'essential' if to compete

Training is an "essential" investment for those in sales recruitment jobs if they are to rival their competitors, an expert suggests.

Learning and development advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Martyn Sloman describes the increasing importance of "value-added" products and quality of service.

He says companies compete primarily through the quality of their staff and spending on this area is essential if a business wishes to match its rivals.

"An investment in relevant knowledge and skills for staff is essential," he states.

Industries such as sales recruitment can offer "staff the opportunity to deploy them [the skills] effectively".

In Deloitte's recent Entrepreneurship UK report, nearly two-fifths of companies claim their corporate culture supports innovation.

More than a quarter believed their biggest investment over the next twelve months would be in training and hiring through routes such as sales recruitment.

Nearly half rely on external recruitment to fill vacancies at work, with only 23 per cent focusing on internal candidates.
